I hope everyone is enjoying their Labor Day. I guess this means summer is coming to an end and the kids are going back to school. Recently, I had the opportunity and pleasure of spending the weekend in a hotel with my family, including my three children. As you might imagine, when staying in a hotel, all the kids think about is going to the pool. From the time we got there, until the day we left, my wife and I were constantly asked “When can we go to the pool?” The line of questioning was so persistent that it felt like the only option for my wife and I had was to take the kids to the pool. Persistence is a powerful trait! So, this week I am going to talk about the power of persistence. Check out the challenge below that can change your life and your business for the better! Thank you for reading!
Persistence…
Any action, any achievement, any dream you have can be crushed with two words… “I quit”. That is all it takes to shatter your dreams, crush your spirits, and stop greatness. These words can stop you from becoming the best company in your industry, or the best leader in your organization.
Normally, after I give a talk on goal setting and achieving, I leave time for a question and answer session. After one particular talk, one individual shared that she was afraid to set new goals, or to do something she hadn’t done before, because she wasn’t going to be great right away. Essentially, she quit trying new things before she even started. She quit before she even started!
Let’s Go for It!
My job is to encourage people to take on new challenges and goals. That involves challenging people to set goals that are going to take them to places they’ve never been. I want people to grow and experience the joy that comes with growth. Companies… accept the challenge of becoming industry leaders! Teams…let’s set the bar for all the other teams in the company to aspire to!
Your Hamster Wheel
To achieve something you haven’t achieved before, you have to do something you haven’t done before. This makes sense, right? Doing the same thing is only going to give the same results. Working harder at doing the same thing, just gets those same results faster.
Accept that Failure is Possible
Nobody is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. We cannot foresee the future. When going after something new, there’s a good possibility that we will make a flawed plan. Things don’t always work out as we had hoped, and often times we need to adjust the plans. It may even seem like the task or goal is unachievable. What do we do then?
Brilliant Failures
The Wright brothers took on an impossible task, and introduced us to powered flight, but only after many spectacular failures. Thomas Edison failed 10,000 times in creating a filament for the first light bulb. President Kennedy challenged us to go to the moon. At the time, these things were unprecedented tasks that had never been accomplished. When Edison failed for the 10,000th time, he easily could have quit. These examples show us the value of persistence. These endeavors were so important that the people working towards them were willing to overcome failure after failure to accomplish their goal.
What made it possible for powered flight, the lightbulb, and landing a man on the moon? Persistence! Where does persistence come from? Desire! Where does desire come from? From within!
The Challenge
Persistence is a direct result of commitment. To achieve greatness and maximize your potential you have to determine what you really want. If money and time were unlimited what would you like to accomplish? Once you get that idea in your mind and create that picture, focus on it daily. Focus on it until you are in love with that idea, until you want it so badly that you can feel it in your gut. Decide it is so important that you are willing to make sacrifices to make it happen. Except only results, not excuses. That is persistence!
The challenge this week is to find what it is that really drives you. What do you want so badly that you will except only results?

Quote of the Week
“There is a difference between being interest and commitment. When you are interested in doing something, you do it when it is convenient. When you are committed to something, you except no excuses; only results.”
-Dr. Kenneth Blanchard

[…] Persistence is so important to success that Napoleon Hill dedicated an entire chapter of the bestselling book Think and Grow Rich. Unless you are already in the top 20%, it is unlikely you have a clear roadmap for getting there. This doesn’t mean that you can’t be the top 20%, but it means there will be struggles along the way. Being persistent means, you won’t quit at the first sign of adversity, or even quit at the second or thousandth sign of adversity. You will do what it takes to overcome the challenges to see your desire become a reality. Persistence is getting up when life knocks you down. In most cases persistence is the difference between success and failure. Think of it this way, the opposite of persistence is quitting. How will you ever achiever your true desires if you quit? […]
