Sometimes in life, we just feel that we’re stuck. We reach a point in our career, or in our business, where we seem to have maxed out. We are working hard, but not getting ahead. We know we want something more but just can’t seem to figure out how to get there. This could be a career change, career growth, or taking your business in a new direction. When you get to this point, it’s time to take action. You can create the change you deserve!
I Want Something More
When you decide to pursue something, a goal or an ideal job, you have to go all in. That doesn’t necessarily mean you should just quit what you are doing to go after what you want, at least not immediately. Everybody’s circumstances are different and must be considered.
Focus on Today
Do today’s work for the future you desire. Wallace D. Wattles discusses this very thing in chapter fifteen of the book The Science of Getting Rich. To paraphrase what Wattles says: when you go about your daily business, you have to be focused on what you are doing now.
You cannot go about today’s business thinking about tomorrow’s business. In other words, to gain what you hope to achieve in the future, you must not ignore the present. Let’s say your ambition is to start a business. Great! But if you quit your job now, you wouldn’t have the cash to sustain your standard of living until your business gets off the ground. My advice, in this case, is to concentrate on being the best you can in your current job.
Why Do I Say That?
If you’ve seen my writing or heard me speak about the law of compensation, you’ll know one of the factors that determines your value in the workplace (or your company’s value in the marketplace) is your ability to do what you do…what you’re best at. If you are the best, you will be valued more. This can help you save the money you need to start your business.
Wattles goes on to say in his book, that you should go about giving excellent service in your present position. Again, this is a characteristic that will help you achieve success in your own business. You’ll develop a reputation, and more importantly a habit, of giving excellent service to others. This is the most effective way to improve your current value. People that provide excellent service (not good service, anyone can provide good service) are more difficult to replace, and therefore your value in the marketplace is also increased.
When the Time is Right
We all know that to be the best at something, you cannot focus your energy in two places. This would be like trying to drive west when you need to go south. The more time you drive west, the farther away you get from your goal of driving south. Eventually, you’ll have to cut ties with your previous line of work and go all in towards your new pathway.
When is the right time? In my experience, that varies from person to person. However, I will say that you shouldn’t wait too long. You may need some training, money, or planning to go where you want to go. Work on that immediately. Get help with it. If you want to do something you’ve not done before, you’ll need guidance. Once you have the training, money, and planning done, go for it! Yes, there might be some learning along the way, in fact, there will be. But, go for it! People always say the time is never perfect. Wait until I pay off the house. Wait until the kids are in school, or out of school. There is always an excuse. But the time is ALWAYS perfect. When you are ready and have help, jump!
This Week’s Challenge
Decide on what it is you want, and learn what you need to achieve it. Whether it is a career change, or growing your business, concentrate on doing today’s work to the best of your ability. Work on making exceptional service a habit. Make it a challenge that today you will be better at your job than you were yesterday, and tomorrow will be better than today. When you do this, today IS the best day of your life, and tomorrow is only going to get better! Wouldn’t you like to live knowing that?

Quote of the Week
“Do all the work you can do, every day, and do each piece of work in a perfectly successful manner; put the power of success, and the purpose to get rich, into everything that you do.” – Wallace D. Wattles
