Why I Started ASC
At a basic level, I believe that for a team to be successful, and continue to be successful, there must be an emphasis on growth. This is good for individuals and good for business. My leadership and career had always been about learning and growing for me and others.
As I moved into leadership positions in my engineering career, I realized that to be an effective leader I had to inspire change. However, I quickly learned that there were people that were stuck in their careers. At some point mid-career, they stopped growing, and they were spending the last 15-20 years doing the same thing with little growth. They were good, but good wasn’t good enough. It was impacting their career and the success of the business. Besides, watching someone do the same thing for 15 years, struggling with the same problems frustrated me. I didn’t want that for my career, and I didn’t want to see it in others. When you stop growing, going to work isn’t fun anymore. I had one engineer tell me “that’s why they call it work.”
I started my company to help leaders change cultures to avoid an atmosphere of complacency. I want work environments to be one where everyone is inspired to act, to grow, and to take performance to the next level and then to the next.
I started Andrew Shaffer Consulting to help businesses create a culture of growth. I wanted to prevent people from getting stuck half way through their career, and to continue to grow. This helps the individual have a more fulfilling career, and it helps the business to continuously grow. No matter where you are in your career, I want EVERYONE to have purpose in their lives.
My Background
During my four-year service in the Navy, I rose to the rank of second class petty officer, which gave me opportunities to lead and direct others. After leaving the Navy, I continued my education earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science degree in Systems Engineering and a Graduate Certificate in Project Management at the Missouri University of Science and Technology.
During my corporate career, I had the opportunity to work on high level engineering projects and received recognition for developing talent and leading teams to maximum results. I managed various teams with specific emphasis, including engineering, manufacturing, and business management, to execute multimillion dollar projects. I was able to successfully apply turnaround management skills to underperforming programs.
My passion for others led me to spend countless hours studying effective leaders, managers and business leaders. Through my exploration of the science of leadership skills and principles compelled me to write and publish a book, entitled Maximizing the Human Potential.
Now, with over 20 years of success managing and leading others through various projects, I have become an entrepreneur. As the founder of Andrew Shaffer Consulting, I have realized my vision of guiding others to achieve next level success. My consulting business is designed to help leaders create dramatic leaps in their , and to show them how to influence the success of others. My goal is to help leaders build effective teams that produce sustainable high-performance year after year.
